Privacy &
cookies
What this website records about you, and how to say no. Short, because the answer is: very little.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which stories and pages are read, so we know what is useful. It only runs if you click Accept on the cookie banner. If you click Reject, or ignore the banner, no analytics cookies are set.
If you accept, Google Analytics sets cookies that tell it whether you have visited before. It records things like the pages you view, roughly where in the world you are (from your internet address, which Google does not store in full), and your type of device and browser. We see only totals and trends — we cannot identify you from it, and we do not try to.
We do not use advertising cookies, do not show adverts, and do not share or sell any of this.
Things stored only on your device
Two small settings are kept in your own browser, never sent to us:
- your cookie choice, so the banner is shown only once;
- the last constituency you looked up in the Your area box, so it is there next time.
Clearing your browser's site data removes both.
Changing your mind
To withdraw consent, clear this site's data in your browser settings. The banner will appear again on your next visit and you can choose Reject.
Hosting and contact
The site is hosted on Google Firebase, which, like any web host, briefly keeps standard server logs of requests for security and reliability.
We do not run accounts, comments or sign-ups, so we hold no personal information about readers. Questions about any of this: press@crimesweekly.com.
